Emergency Services – Sundance Mesa receives firefighting and emergency medical services from District 4 of the Sandoval County Fire Department.  There are currently three fire stations serving Placitas.  The third and newest station is located on Petroglyph Trail in the Anasazi Meadows subdivision. It is staffed 24 hours a day by county career firefighters and paramedics. For all fire and medical emergencies, please dial 911.  If you are interested in volunteering with the fire department, call 867-0245. The district always needs volunteers.

County Burn Rules – Burning in this dry, windy climate is be very dangerous. You can be cited and held liable for damages caused by fire that escapes your control.  For the most current information on burn restrictions in the county call 505-867-4581. Press 3 for the recorded message or you may also obtain information at www.sandovalcountynm.gov/fire. Most types of burning require a permit.   Tumbleweeds are an exception but with these provisions. 1. Piles must be small because tumbleweed burns hot and fast. 2. A garden hose or water supply must be available. 3. Racks and shovels must be close to the burn area.   An alternative for getting rid of dead brush, weeds or tumbleweeds is to bag them and take them to the Sandoval County Landfill located in Rio Rancho or have your trash service remove the bags.

Post Office – The Post Office for zip code 87043 is in the village of Placitas.  There is also a post office in the town of Bernalillo at 147 Calle del Presidente.  Both locations offer USPS services. The Bernalillo location provides passport application and renewal services.

Reflective House Numbers – Sandoval County requires homeowners to display a reflective red and white house number in a position clearly visible from the roadway.  It is very difficult to locate and identify houses at night. If an emergency vehicle is trying to locate your home, a reflective house number can be a lifesaver!  If you need new or replacement numbers they are available free of charge at the Sandoval County Fire Station 43 on Petroglyph Trail. This is a manned station, but the doors will be locked so just knock.
